Lady fern is a perennial fern that typically grows in a vase-shaped clump to 1′-3′ feet tall and 1′-2.5′ feet wide. It has delicate, lacy fronds that are light green in color and bipinnate, meaning the leaflets are arranged on each side of the frond stem.

It blooms in midsummer with small, inconspicuous spore-bearing structures on the underside of the fronds. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and partial shade to full shade, hardy in USDA Zones 4-8.
